With their synthetic, wax-based Black Diamond chain lubricant, the Finnish experts at Rex have already broken records in chain durability tests.

But resting on their laurels was never an option for these ski wax specialists.

While ski waxes and chain lubricants may seem unrelated, they actually share a common goal: to minimize frictional resistance and prevent dirt and contaminants from sticking.

With the new Black Diamond Hot Wax, Rex combines over 70 years of experience in paraffin-based ski waxes with the high-performance additives found in their liquid Black Diamond chain lube.

Customizable Waxing System

The Hot Wax kit includes 11 base blocks made from a specially tailored paraffin blend, plus 1 Black Diamond additive block, allowing you to mix your own custom wax formula.

For most applications, it's recommended to melt all 12 blocks together and soak one or more completely degreased chains in the liquid wax (at temperatures below 100 °C). Once the chain has cooled, gently wipe off the excess wax and reinstall the chain.

Outstanding Durability in Real-World Testing

In testing by the specialists at ZeroFriction, a chain treated with this method achieved over 1,000 kilometers on a dry road simulator before measurable wear occurred.

Even more impressively, a mix using 4 paraffin blocks and 1 Black Diamond block extended the chain’s lifespan to nearly 1,500 kilometers.

Thanks to carefully optimized additives, the Black Diamond Hot Wax also set new mileage records in simulated off-road conditions.

NOTE: The distances achieved on the test bench are maximum values before noticeable wear begins. For a consistently smooth and quiet ride, more frequent waxing is recommended for everyday cycling.
