Ski wax test results from 9th of February, 2024 | 46th Alutaguse Marathon in Estonia

As Estoloppet's official wax partner, we conduct thorough wax tests on the racecourses to ensure that competitors' skis are prepped with the best possible waxing solutions.

Today we share the results of the wax tests from the second stage of Estoloppet, the 46th Alutaguse Marathon.

RACE AND WEATHER CONDITIONS

Air Temperature: -22°C at night, -18°C in the beginning of the competition

Air and Snow Humidity: Low

Trail Conditions: mixed snow. The grain is rather small. No signs of big grains and icy agressive trail base was not found.

WAX TEST RESULTS

Conducted from 12:00 PM to 1:15 PM, the ranking was determined through parallel tests using specially calibrated ski pairs for wax testing.

In adherence to the new season regulations, including the Estoloppet, the use of fluorinated waxes is prohibited.

As the official waxing partner, we exclusively use fluorine-free products for Estoloppet ski maintenance.

Paraffin test results

1. Start Ultra Green paraffin

2. Swix Polar paraffin

3. Rex NF31 paraffin

4. Toko High Performance Blue paraffin

Race powder results

1. Ski-Go FFR Racing Green Powder -7...-20°C, 75ml

2. SWIX TSP05-4 Top Speed Turquoise Powder -8°...-15°C, 40g

3. Solda New Era HL6

4. HWK UHX Powder Cold, 40g

5. Toko High Perfomance Powder blue, 40g

6. Vauhti Pure Race Cold Powder (old snow), -2°...-20°C, 35gr

The first three were performed quite the same, 4th-6th were relatively slower.

Structure recommendations

1. Line17 – relatively better than others

2. PH22 – OK

3. Z46 – OK

4. Line17+Line15 – poor performance.

Grip waxes

1. Toko Nordic Base grip wax Green (1 warm layer)

2. Swix V30 (1 warm layer + 1 cold layer) 

3. Rex N31 (1-2 cold layers)
